Throttur FC was founded in Reykjavik, in a World War2 barrack, on August 5th 1949. The barrack became its clubhouse for the next 10 years and was full of life every week. There were two main founders, the areas fishmonger and a young man who later became the country‘s nr. 1 sea swimmer and even tried three times to swim across the English channel, but sadly without luck. At the meeting were 37 young men and they decided that the club‘s strips should be red and white and with white shorts.
Even though football was the club‘s main sport, other sports followed in the next years to come, handball came first, then volleyball and tennis. Some of Iceland‘s best sprint skaters also came from the club. The club‘s headquarters and sportfacilities are now in Laugardalur valley, „The heart of Reykjavik“.
